Maidstone Scuba School was the brainchild of John Bartlett a former professional racing driver who retired from motor sport at the end of the 1980s. John had been a scuba diver since the 1970's and after retirement set up Maidstone's first PADI 5 star IDC resort, based at Mote Park.
