The Great Astrolabe Reef is home to a kaleidoscope of marine life unequalled in Fiji. The avid scuba diver and keen snorkeler will be treated to vast diversity of fish species and corals in extremely healthy abundance.
Three generations on the O’Connor family have been diving, surfing and fishing here all their lives and they will ensure you experience the ultimate of the fourth largest living, barrier coral reefs in the world.
The famous Naigoro Passage is only minutes away by boat for snorkeling & scuba diving. Mostly, diving is a casual event with the boat departing for the Reef after a leisurely breakfast for the first dive of the day. However dives are also organized around the tides and weather patterns. Sometimes the tide dictates an early morning visit into an amazing scuba coral reef location which is a great way to start the day. Getting out over the edge of the Astrolabe at a particular site like the ‘Archway’ is best done on the high tide when the boat can comfortably skip across the breakers. Discover the thrill of plunging into the sparkling South Pacific Ocean fining along spectacular coral walls or around breathtaking coral pinnacles on one side while on the other gazing into miles of solid translucent blue. Here is where encountering various pelagic species and bigger fish.

HOW TO GET HERE;
Sunair Flights depart Nadi everyday 12 noon. www.sunair.com The adventure on one of the wildest island destinations in Fiji has begun. Flying in a light plane over stunning island scenery including the famous Bega Lagoon with Frigates wave break to your left and Vatulele to your right the flight takes 45 minutes.
Air Fiji flights depart Suva Nausori airport daily. www.airfiji.net This flight takes 35 minutes.
There are no roads on Kadavu Island transport is by boat or foot.
Landing at Vunisea you will be greeted by the boatman who drives the transfer boat from Kadavu airport to our end of Kadavu Island.
This boat transfer is a wonderful introduction to just how amazingly wild and ruggedly beautiful Kadavu really is. The run takes 1 hour weaving in and out of glorious coral reefs, alongside magnificent sandy beaches and remarkable rocky shores.
Alternative way of traveling to Kadavu is by ferry departing from Narayan Wharf Suva Harbour in Walu Bay. Be warned that this ferry is sometimes not reliable and the trip could take anywhere from 8 hours to 38 hours. However it is an adventure in itself and you do arrive safely in the end.
Kadavu Shipping runs the service and the name of the ferry is ‘Bulou ni Ceva'. (Bulo ni Theva) The office phone number is 3311677 and is located in Walu Bay Suva.
This ferry is also the major island supply ship which is why the trip can take much longer than expected. Deliveries from fuel to hardware to groceries for villages, resorts and island businesses are carried out along the way. Don’t be surprised to see even a couple of cows or pigs on board.
