In 1996 a 330 foot Russian warship with four deck guns, renamed the MV Capt. Keith Tibbetts, was sunk off the west end of the island. As well, there are three other wrecks in the area, the 65-foot Cayman Mariner, the 60-foot tugboat Kissimee and the Prince Frederick which ran aground in 1897. Other sites around Cayman Brac include an ancient anchor embedded in a wall, many shallow coral reefs and an underwater city of Atlantis. Brac Reef Beach Resort and its on-site dive shop, Reef Divers II, offer their guests the best of Cayman Island diving – a choice of the 120 dive sites dotting the Sister Islands. Plunging to mind-boggling depths, Little Cayman’s exhilarating walls are covered with brightly hued sponges and corals. Bloody Bay Wall, the island’s most famous attraction, offers the finest drop-offs in the Caribbean. Many of the dive sites are also excellent for snorkeling. The underwater visibility around Little Cayman is 100-150 feet, the water is always warm, and colorful sea life, such as turtles and peacock flounder, is in abundance.
